Participants in the Eurovision Song Contest 2021 have to record a performance in advance | NOW

All participants in the 2021 Eurovision Song Contest must send a recorded live performance of the entry to the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) before the end of March. If artists cannot be in Rotterdam in May, these images will be used, the organization announced.

The organization announced earlier this year that the Song Contest will continue in May 2021, regardless of the situation with the corona virus. The EBU hopes that there will be no surprises by having each participating country record a video in advance.

The organization will only use the videos if an artist cannot travel to Rotterdam or unexpectedly cannot go on stage due to a quarantine obligation.

The video of the performance must be recorded continuously in a studio. The vocals must be live and may not be edited afterwards. The same applies to any choreography. The performances may be decorated with the same options that would be available in Rotterdam. Water, virtual reality, one green screen and confetti are not an option.

Maximum one hour

The head of a country’s delegation must be present at the recordings, where three takes may be done and there is a maximum of one hour. A supervisor is watching via a live connection.

In 2021, 41 countries will participate in the Eurovision Song Contest, which will take place in Rotterdam after the Dutch win in 2019. Jeangu Macrooy will once again have the opportunity to represent the Netherlands.

It was recently announced that the draw for the semi-finals will remain the same as for the canceled 2020 edition.
