The photography competition Sony World Photography Awards 2025organized by the World Photography Organization (WPO)keeps its call open for different categories until January 10, 2025.
With the aim of promoting new talents, this contest has four different categories:
Competition for students
The reception of images for this selection ends on November 29, 2024 at 13:00 (GMT)
To participate in this contest, the person must be completing a photography program (course, module or teaching credit at the higher education level) and be between 18 and 30 years old. It is necessary that the educational institution be registered within the participating institutions; if not, registration can be done here.
Students participate within a category: “In the beginning”. Through a series of five to ten images, participants have to show the beginnings or the early stage of something. The story, approach and photographic style are free as long as the instructions are respected.
Those who are creditors of the title “Student Photographer of the Year” will win digital imaging equipment Sony For both them and their institution, flights and accommodation for the awards ceremony in London, certificate, trophy and international press exposure, among other benefits. In addition, there will be 10 preselected photographers, who will be included in the contest image book, will obtain a certificate and promotion on the WPO site.
Competition for young people
Entry in this contest is free and open to photographers aged 19 or younger. Individual images taken in 2024 can be submitted and their Reception ends on January 3, 2025 at 13:00 (GMT).
Like the student contest, there is only one entry category: you only have to submit your best images. They all have to be related to the same topic and you can send up to three for free.
The jury will select a list of 10 photographers, who will compete for the title of “Youth Photographer of the Year”. Whoever is selected will receive digital imaging equipment, flights and accommodation for the awards ceremony in London, certificate, trophy and more benefits.
Open competition
The deadline for submitting works for this contest is until January 3, 2025 at 13:00 (GMT). These include national and regional awards, as well as ethe Alpha Female Award. The categories to participate are: Architecture, creative, movement, landscape, lifestyle, natural world and wildlife, object, portrait, street photography and travel.

There are prizes for the winners of each category and up to 15 preselected for each one. These include: Sony digital imaging equipment, certificate, trophy, exposure in the world press and promotion on the WPO site.

Professional competition
For this contest, which includes the Latin American Professional Award and the Sustainability Awardyou need to send photographs before January 10, 2025 at 13:00 (GMT).
You can participate within the 10 categories: Architecture and design, creative, documentary projects, environment, landscape, perspectives, portrait, wildlife and nature, still life and sport.
Participation (group or individual) is open to a series of 5 to 10 images per category. Whoever obtains the title of “Photographer of the Year” will be awarded with a presentation of their work as part of the exhibition Sony World Photography Awards of London the following year, in addition to a financial remuneration of $25,000 USD and Sony digital imaging equipment.
The winners per category will also be awarded with Sony digital imaging equipment, flights and accommodation for the awards ceremony in London, a trophy and a copy of the book with the compilation of images from the contest. Those who obtain 2nd and 3rd place will also obtain other prizes.
