The Parthenay fire station is organizing a big evening on Saturday October 14 to benefit the fight against breast cancer. On the program, firefighters’ parade and “garland of bras” as decoration.
This is an unusual decoration for the Parthenay fire station. A garland of pink bras is indeed hung on the exterior walls. And in the barracks, many volunteers are busy transforming the shed, that is to say the place where the vehicles are parked, into a performance hall. Because on Saturday October 14, the Parthenay barracks will present a great show as part ofPink Octoberthe month dedicated to breast cancer prevention.
It was the fire brigade of the station and a few volunteers who had the idea of doing something. But what ? Isabel Robert-Roces, co-organizer, wife and mother of firefighters, explains “we wanted to mark the occasion for a strong cause. And doing something with the firefighters always has a strong impact.” So the fight against breast cancer was a strong cause.
Once the cause was found, the organizers chose the formula. It will be a fashion show and a spectacle. Five firefighters will be models for one evening in the company of five young women. They will present clothes made available by stores in Parthenay, partners of the operation. But to do all this in a fire station obviously required some permits. The head of the Parthenay barracks center gave his agreement, and the staff of the Niort Departmental Fire and Rescue Service was also convinced, with a few rules to respect. And in particular the presence in the barracks of the on-call team and the ability given to emergency vehicles to leave as quickly as possible.

Entrance will be charged, five euros per person over 12 years old, “cancer is a scourge that affects everyone social classes, we set a relatively low price to allow everyone to participate” explain Isabel Robert-Roces. “A ballot box will also be installed for those who want to donate more. All amounts received will be donated by the firefighters’ association to the League against cancer.

Leading cause of death of women from cancer in France
One in eight women in France is, or will be, affected by this cancer. It is the leading cause of cancer mortality among women in our country with 12,000 deaths each year and 60,000 new women affected each year. “We all have a woman in our entourage who is or has been affected” summarizes Isabel Robert-Roces.
