“Part-Time Worker at My Number Support Counter in Kawaguchi City Commits Fraud”

Sample of My Number Card

Kawaguchi City, Saitama Prefecture, announced on the 2nd that a 32-year-old man working part-time at a Mynapoint application support counter for My Number holders fraudulently acquired a total of 30,000 yen worth of points given to two citizens. The city will consider handling the matter, including criminal charges.

Counter operations are outsourced by the city to business operators. According to the city, on March 13, the man assisted two citizens in completing the procedures to give them points worth a total of 30,000 yen on two nanaco e-money cards. I replaced it with two Nanaco cards and handed them over.

On April 20, two people contacted the city saying, “Minor points are not given,” and it turned out that the number of the card that was given points and the card they had were different. The points had already been used, and after identifying the store, the contractor asked a man who lived near the store about the situation, and admitted to stealing.

The man has been working there since February, and is said to have been in charge of similar work in another municipality within the prefecture. Mayor Nobuo Okunoki commented, “We deeply apologize for causing great anxiety and trouble. We will work to prevent a recurrence.”
