Part of the façade of a polyclinic in Havana collapses – 2024-04-03 09:58:24

Part of the façade of the ‘Mártires del Corynthia’ Teaching Polyclinic, located in Vedado, Havana, collapsed due to the heavy rains that were recorded in the capital during the last few days, once again revealing the lack of maintenance that the oldest buildings in the capital experiment.

According to information shared on social networks, the collapse of the façade occurred this Thursday, March 28, and although it occurred at the main entrance of the polyclinic, no injuries were reported due to the debris.

“A part of the façade that faces the main entrance of the medical center fell due to the rains and the abandonment of the infrastructure,” reads a post recently shared on Twitter.

“There were no injuries, miraculously,” he added, referring to the fact that this occurred in a hospital visited by many people a day.

The complaint was made in a Twitter thread that reported another similar incident last Wednesday, March 27 in the capital, where an entire wall of an uninhabited building in the municipality of Centro Habana ended up falling.

Online users indicated that the building is located on Oquendo Street, between San Miguel and San Rafael, and identified it as the Arbos building.

This property had already suffered a large collapse in February 2014, when its two upper floors fell due to lack of maintenance. This endangered the structure of the seven-story building with 120 apartments, so it was evicted.

“A wall collapsed in an uninhabited building in Havana, no damage to people was reported… the capital falls apart with the slightest downpour, years of apathy and abandonment,” wrote Cuban activist Magdiel Jorge Castro.

Last week, the cold front that affected the Island caused heavy rains in the west of the country, which caused the partial collapse of several homes and the flooding of the Luyanó River, in Havana, which left several neighborhoods flooded.
