Both the Animalista Party and users of social networks have condemned the shooting of Argentine parrots in Madrid. PACMA has demanded explanations from the City Council for the images that have circulated on Twitter. In these, two workers are observed who were shooting parrots in the Fuente del Berro Park, in the Madrid capital.
The qualified “extermination” of the parrots began in 2019, after Almeida’s announcement of a plan to kill 90% of these birds, PACMA has assured. Although the formation collected thousands of signatures, the City Council decided to continue with what was agreed without accepting citizen complaints. In May, the Madrid City Council launched the municipal plan to reduce the Argentine parrot, awarding the municipal plan to the company Matinsa and Dypsa for 2,930,097.49 euros. Regarding the video that circulates on the networks, the City Council assures that it is an action included in the plan for exceptional situations and that “it adheres to the authorization of the Community of Madrid to reduce these invasive exotic birds”, according to sources from the Environment Area of the Madrid City Council.
The Animalista Party has demanded explanations, in addition to requesting the immediate stoppage of the lethal management plan for the parrots throughout the city.
???? DISSEMINATION URGENT
This is how you control @MADRID to the parrots? Is this the management that you defend, @bcarabante? We have presented you with an ethical, non-harmful, effective and cheaper method and you have chosen to shoot them dead!
IT IS A SHAME.
We will not stop until this massacre is stopped. pic.twitter.com/cLVVoMk3cu– PACMA (@PartidoPACMA) November 25, 2021
The tweeters have joined the cause, making their outrage public and demanding that the “slaughter” stop: “Neither ethical code nor shit, they don’t care about animals, nor do they care about us.”
The Madrid City Council to clean shot against the parrots in the parks, is that I no longer give credit to these people. They do not give them a bit of shame, nor ethical code nor shit, nor do they care about animals, nor do they care about us … only the return to black and white.

A correct society, a civilized politician and an enlightened Municipality should not allow the hunting of parrots with guns, ethics and animal welfare I doubt that they do so, being Europe a pioneer in not allowing animal abuse.@AlmeidaPP_#Madrid #NoAlMaltratoAnimal pic.twitter.com/A5hI0DeN4G

That in Madrid they start shooting parrots justifying themselves by claiming that they harm the native fauna, that they transmit diseases, that they cause noise pollution and that it is an “invasive species” sounds like a bad joke.

SosCotorras does not hesitate to comment that “the killing of parrots in the Fuente del Berro Park by gunfire has silenced Enrique Iniesta’s violin and Becquer’s poetry. In the air, only the thunderous silence of death remains.”

Some users have described the technicians as “murderers”, others condemn the Madrid City Council for its “cruel” plan for the parrots.
