The Brisbane home was ablaze when firefighters arrived at 2 a.m. They were looking for resident Anton Nguyen. Luckily he had already escaped and was waiting outside with Eric, his bird.
Anton heard a noise at night. Then Eric, my parrot, started screaming. It woke me up and smelled the smell of fire ”, Nguyen responds. “I grabbed Eric, opened my door and saw the flames in the house.”
He hadn’t heard the smoke alarm, Nguyen says. “I’m in shock, but unharmed.”
Nguyen was saved by shouting his name, Queensland Fire and Emergency Services inspector Cam Thomas confirms. “The animal called” Anton! Anton! ‘. There were smoke detectors in the house but the bird responded earlier. ” Only later did the smoke detectors go off, says Thomas.
Nobody was hurt. The cause of the fire is still unknown.
