Parliamentary debate about corona: majority wants national masks in public space

Lilian Marijnissen (SP) opens the debate. She is concerned about the declining public support for the corona measures. According to her, this is due to the unclear message from the cabinet. “What exactly is the government directing? Is it about hospital admissions or infections?”

The cabinet should intervene earlier if the number of infections increases, Marijnissen believes. And not always pass the responsibility on to mayors or to retailers who have to choose whether to oblige customers to wear a mouth mask. “You can’t destroy the virus, you have to crush it!”

Marijnissen argues for the immediate introduction of a national duty to mask the mouth, in public spaces, where keeping a distance of 1.5 meters is not possible. She also wants a clearer roadmap: “We take those measures for so many infections”.
