Parliament: With a fast track meeting, the ND “sealed” the parliamentary coup – “I will not spoil my weekend” said Bouras – 2024-08-03 15:25:37

The chairman of the Institutions and Transparency Committee, Athanasios Bouras, closed the meeting on the demands of the “alliance of 5” gradually, after he did not even allow second arguments to be made. As expected, the political thermometer hit “red”, with Mr. Bura making it clear that he does not intend to… spoil his weekend, even wishing his colleagues a “good summer” and “good luck in September”.

With a fast track procedure, the majority rejected with 14-13 votes the request of the minority parties to summon the public prosecutors, Achillea Zisi and Georgia Adelinis, and to transmit the Supreme Court’s opinion on the wiretapping.

After the hammering of the opposition group on the proposal of Thanos Pleuris, who characterized the minority’s requests as unconstitutional, the president of the Commission said: “The positions of the colleagues have been completed and we are proceeding to make a decision.” The words of Ath. Bura caused a storm of reactions from the opposition MPs, with the president being adamant and moving ahead with the roll call vote.

“I have arranged the procedure”

“Three MPs are asking to speak,” Zoe Konstantopoulou intervened, with Mr. Bouras confessing: “I have arranged the procedure from the beginning.” Then Theodora Tzakri tried to take the floor, trying to articulate that she did not wish to appeal, but to announce that she would file publications on the testimony of the then Appellate Prosecutor, Georgia Tsatani, to the same Committee.

“I don’t want to make an appeal, I want to file documents” said the secretary of the SYRIZA Committee, with Mr. Bura repeating: “No one will make an appeal, whoever wants to file in the minutes…”. When it was the turn of Nikos Karathanasopoulos from the KKE to express his vote, he said: “With fast track procedures you close the Committee. It’s acceptable what you’re doing, you’re legitimizing surveillance.”

“Cover Up”

The president of Plevsis Eleftheria described the process as a “cover-up act”, which “seals what we are reporting to you. In other words, that you are actively participating today in the violation of the Constitution and the law”. “Mr. Zisis, who made the conclusion, is also the president of the Union of Prosecutors who issued a statement in favor of the government,” he announced and concluded: “This is the extent of the involvement.”

Afterwards, the secretary of the ND Committee of the People, Stavros Kalafatis, constantly interrupted Mrs. Konstantopoulou, resulting in the following dialogue:

Calker: What are you voting for?

Constantopoulou: You remember Muppet Show.

Bouras: Please cast your vote.

Constantopoulou: What are you pretending Mr. Bura when I vote?

Bouras: I won’t spoil my weekend.

In fact, closing the meeting after the end of the voting, Mr. Bouras, visibly relieved, wished a “good summer” and a “good meeting” to his colleagues in order to come back and defend – as he said – our democracy that is celebrating its 50th anniversary!
