Parliament will vote on a declaration to recognize the Armenian Genocide –

/ world today news/ The National Assembly will vote on a declaration on recognition of the Armenian Genocide on Friday. This was decided by the majority in the plenary hall at the beginning of the first session of the parliament after the vacation, reported a BGNES reporter.

At the proposal of “Ataka”, the examination of the declaration on the recognition of the Armenian Genocide by the Ottoman Empire was included in the work program of the deputies as the first item for the meeting on Friday.

The text of the declaration is very short and states that the Bulgarian National Assembly officially recognizes the genocide of the Armenians during the Ottoman Empire and declares April 24 as the Day of Remembrance of the Victims. The point must be considered by the deputies on April 24, 2015.

Tomorrow, the Austrian parliament will consider such a declaration, and on April 24, the German parliament will also adopt a similar declaration, argues Desislav Chukolov, who defended Ataka’s proposal. He recalled that a few days ago the European Parliament encouraged Turkey and European countries to recognize the European genocide.

In the first vote, the inclusion of the declaration failed to gather the necessary votes, but “Attaka” requested a re-vote with the argument that no one should abstain on this issue. Over 100 intellectuals, many of them non-Armenians, came out with an opinion in support of such a declaration, Chukolov pointed out. He called for the point to be included on Friday, and if there are any proposals for changes in the text of the declaration, a working group should be convened today or tomorrow.

In the end, during the re-voting “for” the inclusion of the item in the agenda, 105 deputies voted from all groups, with the exception of DPS. 31 MPs were against and 41 abstained. Whether the declaration itself will be adopted will become clear on Friday morning, when debates and a vote are due in plenary.

Before “Attack”, an item on the agenda managed to include the BSP. At the suggestion of Cornelia Ninova and again after a re-vote, the last item on the agenda includes changes to the Law on Protection of Competition, better known as the “Law on Trade Chains”.
