“The case file left Larissa on Friday…” said -among other things- from the Parliament’s peristyle the SYRIZA rapporteur for the Tempe crime investigation, Vassilis Kokkalis, wanting to imply that it is not possible today, Tuesday, the members of Commission not to have access.
Mr. Kokkalis stated in detail:
“A little while ago we requested, as SYRIZA-PS, the correlation of the case file, which was sent from the previous week by the appellant-investigator, i.e. the access of all the members of the investigation committee to the case file of Tempe, and the extension, at least for one week , in the deposition of the findings for the Commission of Inquiry. The case file left Larissa on Friday.”
In addition to the correlation of the Commission’s work with the case file in question, which will be decided by the appellant – Larissa investigator, Mr. Kokkalis also requests the extension of the date of filing the findings, which has been set for March 8.
It is questionable why Mr. Kokkalis does not request the extension of the work of the Inquiry, since the case file provides new evidence and fully legitimizes the calling of witnesses that the majority did not want to call, such as Kostas Genidounias.
If the argument is that SYRIZA withdrew from the last meeting of the Commission, then it could return because it did not take the decision not to submit a report. Thus, he would claim what the victims’ relatives are also asking for. That is, the examination of critical witnesses.
KKE request for a convergence of the Examining Committee
Against the background of the latest developments with the transfer of the case file of the appellant – investigator Larisa to the Parliament, the representatives of the KKE in the Commission, Nikos Karathanasopoulos and Maria Komninaka, request from the bureau “the immediate meeting of the Investigative Committee”.
What sources of the Bureau of Examination say
In the meantime, sources from the Presidium of the Investigative Committee point out the following:
“Given that we have been informed that members of the examination committee have submitted requests to the Presidium of the examination committee (SYRIZA regarding the extension of the work of the examination, KKE for a new meeting) for your information, we inform you that the material in question has not been received by the Parliament and therefore the secretariat of the Examining Committee.
In any case, with absolute respect for the memory of the victims and the pain of their relatives, we must all rise to the occasion and operate absolutely institutionally with a view to uncovering the truth.
Therefore, it is self-evident that after receiving the information, the procedure that will be followed is the one that is routinely followed in case files of major interest, as has been done in the past.
After receiving the information, the members of the investigative committee will have access to the material transmitted by the Larissa Appeals Prosecutor’s Office, which is conducting the main investigation, in order to evaluate the information and decide whether and which part of it they will include in their report.
