Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri on Embassies’ Call for Nationals to Leave Lebanon

Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri was surprised by the statement of embassies calling on their nationals to leave Lebanon, stressing that “nothing in security necessitates that.”

In an interview with “Al-Mayadeen”, he said: “Limiting the warning to the clash areas near Ain Al-Hilweh is understandable, but the call for the nationals to leave is not understood.”

He pointed out, “The situation in Ain al-Hilweh has been calm for 3 days, so why those warning statements?”

Berri pointed out that “the French envoy, Jean-Yves Le Drian, spoke to him, citing the five-way meeting, proposing the national dialogue, not the separate dialogues.”

In response to a question about the sanctions, describing it as an extension of Hezbollah, he said: “I am an extension of everything,” and as I said before, I am wild and blasphemous.

A number of Gulf countries, along with Germany, had warned their citizens not to be in areas of tension in Lebanon, while Saudi Arabia asked its citizens to leave the country immediately.
