Seldom so much agreement: Parliament approves loans totaling 15 million francs

The renovation of the courtyard and the upgrading of the train station and its surroundings are groundbreaking projects for the city of Wil. All parties saw it that way at the parliamentary session.

Now all that remains is for the population to agree to the third stage of renovation at Hof zu Wil.

In total, the parliament spoke almost 15 million francs for four projects and their planning. And the parties have seldom been seen so united. The loan for the renovation of Hof zu Wil for around nine million francs was passed in the second reading without a dissenting vote.

Now the only thing missing is the approval of the population so that the third construction phase can be tackled. For the time being, it marks the end of the work on the historic building. The earliest possible voting date would be November 27th.

Solar power for 190 single-family houses

A loan of one million francs for the construction of a solar system on the roofs of the Schmolz + Bickenbach company was also undisputed. It is the first time that the city has implemented such a large solar system on private buildings.

The plant is to produce electricity for 190 single-family houses. This is intended to bring the city one step closer to its goal of covering 15 percent of its total electricity demand with solar energy by 2050. Construction of the plant is to begin in November. If everything goes according to plan, it can then be put into operation as early as December.

Complete renovation for the train station

Three loans for projects around the station were also discussed. These are the construction and construction project for the replacement of the Hubstrasse underpass, the preliminary project for the bicycle underpass in the Post Tunnel and the construction and construction project for upgrading the Wil train station.

On the one hand, all projects are intended to bring improvements for all road users. Cyclists in particular benefit from additional and safe crossing options at the station. On the other hand, it is also about making the train station as a central hub with regional significance more appealing, more practical and safer.
