The exhibition had not even opened and one of the works was already sold. The Parkinson Burgos Association does not cease in its efforts to make its activity visible, as it already did effectively during its 25th anniversary, with the aim of raising funds with which to provide a better quality of life for its users. His latest proposal, an exhibition open from this Monday until November 30 in the Círculo Solidario room, brings together ten local artists willing to contribute their grain of sand.
One of the “dreams” that the president of the entity, María Jesús Delgado, has longed to fulfill “for a long time” culminates. Carlos Maeso, José Marticorena, Paco Ortega, Emilio Herrera, Jesús Castro, Isaac Martínez ‘Sacris’, Gerardo Ibáñez, Rafael Mediavilla, Cristino Díez, María José Castaño and Ricardo Alonso converge, together with several works by Artemisa, in the “house of art, culture and solidarity” from the Cículo Foundation. In total, around thirty paintings, photographs and sculptures that denote the “generosity” of its creators.
Aside from raising funds, the president of Parkinson Burgos also highlights the “therapeutic” nature of art for people who suffer from this and other diseases. Carlos Maeso can attest to this, capable of expressing through his surrealist side the “difficulties” that this neurodegenerative disorder entails, which he does not take away to continue giving free rein to creativity. For this reason, Delgado encourages users to let themselves go, to exploit their talent, and “who knows if maybe it is the first brick that we lay for future exhibitions.”
Precisely, the association works on the development of skills through disciplines such as painting, photography or writing. Because “art is healing” and “a way of expressing oneself” beyond words. Furthermore, the spatial coincidence of these ten authors in Círculo Solidario can serve as inspiration to users.
Waiting list
According to Delgado, Parkinson Burgos has around 480 members and welcomes 145 people daily in its Multiservice Comprehensive Care Center, in addition to assisting other users in their homes. However, the entity demands more funds from public administrations to reinforce the workforce and be able to extend its portfolio of services to a greater number of patients.
As of today, eight people remain on the waiting list. The problem lies, as the president of the entity points out, that at least another physiotherapist would be needed because “it is what they demand the most.”
