Free parking is being abolished in large parts of Kreuzberg, and the district is setting up four new parking zones. Anyone who wants a resident parking permit needs to hurry.
In the autumn, several new parking zones will be introduced in Kreuzberg, abolishing free parking for cars on the side of the road. From September 1st, the Reichenberger Kiez and Lausitzer Platz parking zones will be introduced, which include the Görlitzer Bahnhof underground station, Paul-Lincke-Ufer and Rio-Reiser-Platz.
From October 1st, the new Graefekiez and Oranienplatz parking zones will follow. These include Kottbusser Tor and large parts of Urbanstrasse, including the Urban Hospital.
Anyone who wants to park their car in the new parking zones will have to pay from Monday to Saturday from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Parking will cost 3 euros per hour in the Reichenberger Kiez, Graefekiez and Oranienplatz zones, and 4 euros per hour in the Lausitzer Platz zone. Residents can apply for a resident parking permit online. However, the district warns that they should hurry, as processing can take some time. Resident parking permits in Berlin currently cost 20.40 euros for two years. However, the Senate has been planning to increase these costs for some time.
The Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg district office cites the shortage of parking space in the inner city area as the reason for expanding parking space management. The fees are intended to make more efficient use of existing parking space.
This means that free parking will soon be possible, especially in northwest Kreuzberg, for example from the Prinzenstraße to Gleisdreieck subway stations. In the long term, the district wants to make the whole of Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg a parking zone. However, the financing of new parking ticket machines and traffic signs must first be clarified.
