“Parking Disc for Motorcycles and Scooters: Innovative Design to Meet Legal Requirements”

No, motorcycles and scooters are not exempt from the obligation to wear a parking disc if this is required in parking lots or in stopping zones. But what to do with it on the motorized two-wheeler? According to the Institute for Two-Wheeler Safety, an alternative solution such as a piece of paper with a handwritten note will not be accepted by the legislature. Road traffic regulations are no exception. And adhesive tape to attach the parking disc somewhere on the handlebars, on the fork or on the tank is not always at hand. The same applies to fastening with cable ties. Katrin Derndinger from Düsseldorf has thought about the problem – and developed a solution.

Katrin Derninger has developed a parking disc for scooters and motorcycles that combines design and functionality. The parking disc she designed is in the shape of a “P” with the scale for the time in the lower circle of the letter. It is – as stipulated – blue and has the white rotating disk also required by law. Times can be set between 6:30 a.m. and 10:30 p.m. That should be enough for 99 percent of all eligible cases.

With her product, the start-up entrepreneur also meets the other regulatory requirements for a parking disc: it must be at least eleven centimeters wide and 15 centimeters high. It is best to simply hang it on one of the two handlebar grips. The only question left to be answered individually is where the plastic P is stowed while driving. Because of the storage compartment under the seat, scooter riders should hardly have any problems with it. And motorcyclists are sure to find something to take with them in side cases, backpacks, top cases or tank bags.

While the parking disc behind the windscreen in the car is safe from theft, on a two-wheeler it could certainly tempt one or the other thief to access it because of the great idea. If you want to prevent this, the Düsseldorf designer recommends simply securing the P with a spiral lock.

And since she was already there, Katrin Derndinger found another possible use. In an orange version, the P serves as an indication of a breakdown.

The two-wheeler parking disc costs 12.50 euros plus two euros for postage (also for two discs). Orders can be sent to the email address [email protected]. (aum/jri)
