Parker and the Europeans in the NBA: “It was David Stern’s vision and dream”

The last few years of the NBA have been dominated by international players, with Europeans like Nikola Jokic, Luka Doncic and Giannis Antetokounmpo leading the way as big stars. From there the next step was taken, initiated by Tony Parker, Manu Ginobili, Dirk Nowitzki and Pau Gasol.

In that sense, the French point guard himself spoke with Marca and gave his vision: “I think this was David Stern’s vision and dream. He made sure the NBA grew internationally long ago. Starting with the ‘Dream Team’, in ’92 in Barcelona.”

In turn, he added: “From then on, there were many children who dreamed of being like them and playing in the NBA. I was one of them. Also Pau, Dirk, we all had the same dream when we were children. Now it’s a global league, talent comes from everywhere. And it no longer surprises me that there are great players who are dominating the NBA like Jokic, Doncic or Giannis. “They are introducing a new generation that is playing very well.”

In this sense, he delved into current French events and the great talents they have brought out: “We have had great talents coming out of France for many years. The way it is played in the French league allows it to adapt well to the American one. NBA scouts love to come to France looking for talent. We have been representing our country in the NBA for a long time. Our greatest exponent is Victor (Wembanyama).”
