Park Upgrade in Toulon’s Saint-Jean du Var District: A Big Project for the Community

“It is a big project”, whispers the deputy mayor of Toulon, Martine Bérard, observing the commotion at Pré Sandin. There, in the Saint-Jean du Var district, work began last September. They are located in the northeast part of the park, a few meters from the vocational high school.

“We have already done the earthworks. The entire construction site area has been secured so that people avoid traveling there,” resumes the elected official in charge of green spaces. This work should make it possible to expand the park, using land that had until now been somewhat abandoned. “Before, there was nothing, it was a very old wasteland”comments the assistant.

An upgrade for the entire park

At the beginning of next year, the area will be properly developed. More than 3,000m2 will be added to the existing park. “A complementary expansion”, according to Thierry Campus, delegated municipal councilor: “Children’s games already existed. There, we will have a park for all generations.”

To the north, small stairs will lead to a relaxation area, made up of several wooden deckchairs and a planted area. Further down, a large dry fountain, the 61st in the town, is being built. This will, obviously, be a closed circuit. “There will just be five jets coming out of the ground.”

All around, benches, stone coverings, trees and plants will be placed or planted. Those who wish to move can be satisfied with the installation of sports equipment. Total cost of operations: 470,000 euros.

“At the same time, we want to upgrade the entire park in terms of maintenance and plantings, so that it is in harmony with this new space”, adds Martine Bérard. The entire park will be reopened to the population in the first quarter of 2024.
