[OSEN=박하영 기자] ‘Doctor Slump’ Park Shin-hye and Park Hyung-sik, who were rivals during their school days, reunited 14 years after going through the worst slump of their lives.
JTBC’s new Saturday-Sunday drama ‘Doctor Slump’ (directed by Oh Hyeon-jong, written by Baek Sun-woo), which first aired on the 27th, depicted Yeo Jeong-woo (played by Park Hyeong-sik) and Nam Ha-neul (played by Park Shin-hye) going through the worst slump of their lives.
On that day, Nam Ha-neul, who became a doctor, complained of abdominal pain and said, “I still vividly remember the path I walked after leaving the hospital. Guardians supporting the patient, delivery motorcycles, walks, caffeine, trees, the world was the same as usual. It took 3 minutes for my normal daily life to collapse. It started with the narration, “In that short period of time, someone smokes a cigarette, someone solves a math problem, someone feels happy, and someone loses their life.”
Nam Ha-neul, who was crossing the crosswalk, ended up sitting down in the middle of the road without being able to cross the entire road, and was in danger of getting into a traffic accident when he collided with an oncoming truck. At the same time, Yeo Yeong-woo was depicted experiencing a medical accident, arousing curiosity.
In 2009, Nam Ha-neul was such a study bug that he got a perfect score on a mock exam in Busan. And the high school days of Yeo Yeong-woo, who was ranked first in the entire school in Seoul, were revealed. The two, who had no contact at all, met in the same school and class when Nam Ha-neul’s family moved to Seoul after his father passed away. The two people who met for the first time said, “There are no two suns under the sky, and there are no two best people in the entire school. “That was the beginning of the war,” he said, and they competed in many ways, from morning school start time to class time.
As time passed, Yeo Yeong-woo, who became a doctor, was indignant when his friends asked him about Nam Ha-neul, saying, “He’s such a scary kid, he’s probably going to take care of himself and live well.” However, she did not live well in Nam Ha-neul, contrary to her expectations, and while suffering from her senior’s verbal abuse and her excessive work stress, she almost suffered an accident in which she was almost hit by a truck.
On the other hand, Yeo Yeong-woo did well. After receiving attention from an overseas medical volunteer documentary and gaining fame, he had 1 million subscribers to his personal video channel and was on a steady path to business expansion. However, Yeo Yeong-woo faced a crisis when a mysterious accident occurred during which he died from excessive bleeding while performing contour surgery on a patient from Macau. Even worse, the CCTV did not work during the time of the surgery, so he became a suspect of manslaughter.
Yeo Yeong-woo, who was put on trial under unfavorable circumstances, pleaded not guilty, but the situation got worse when the prosecutor said that an anticoagulant bottle with Yeo Yeong-woo’s fingerprints on it was found at his hospital.
That evening, Yeo Yeong-woo said, “I said in a movie. Failure and crushing defeat have different meanings. Everyone fails, but crushing defeat is a great failure that only comes from legends. “I lost miserably,” he said, holding out hope that his friends and business partners would believe in him.
However, when this incident caused billions of won in damage, friends complained, saying, “You didn’t really do it, right?” On the other hand, Min Kyung-min (played by Oh Dong-min), who was like a brother, showed his trust in Jung-woo until the end, saying, “I will reorganize the defense team even if it means taking on debt, so you should liquidate all the assets that can be disposed of right away.”
Meanwhile, Nam Ha-neul remembered an accident in which she was almost hit by a truck while crossing a crosswalk and visited a mental health clinic. The moment he was hit by a car and almost died, he thought, ‘Okay, let’s die. It would be better to die.’ Accordingly, the doctor (Lee Seung-jun) diagnosed him with depression, and Nam Ha-neul was surprised and said, “I’m doing well.”
Then the doctor explained burnout syndrome and said, “There is no need to think too seriously. “It’s a mental illness because I worked too hard and couldn’t rest,” he comforted me. Nam Haneul seemed unable to accept this situation and said, “It’s funny, where do I have time to be depressed?” What am I, how am I? “I’m fine,” he shouted, throwing away all the prescribed medication.
Afterwards, Nam Ha-neul, who returned home after purchasing beer, was looking for a rooftop room and encountered his rival, Yeo Jeong-woo, who competed for first place in the school and nation during high school, as a new tenant. At the unexpected reunion, the two said to each other, “The girl I liked back then, the girl I hated back then,” and “The boy I wanted to grab by the collar back then, I met that boy again in the worst slump of my life.” He looked surprised.
