Altenberg. The city of Altenberg and the Oberelbe Transport Association (VVO) have put new bicycle boxes into operation at Altenberg train station. The system enables theft-proof parking of bicycles including charging options for e-bikes. The system includes twelve lockable boxes, four of which can be used to charge e-bikes. The usage fees are staggered, an hour costs one euro, a day costs five euros. The prices are therefore about the same as those for cars in most Altenberg parking lots. Parking for cars only costs two euros per hour in the two top parking spaces with toilets, such as at the ski lift.

The VVO and the city of Altenberg invested a total of 45,000 euros in the bicycle boxes. “The box is a practical addition to our hub at Altenberg train station, especially for guests who are traveling with high-quality bicycles that need to be parked safely and dry,” says Altenberg’s mayor Markus Wiesenberg (CDU). It makes switching between bikes, trains and buses even more comfortable.
Luggage can also be deposited here
“The bicycle box in Altenberg is another component of the VVO bicycle strategy,” adds VVO managing director Burkhard Ehlen. “This is now the seventh box in the network area that allows passengers to safely park their bicycles before completing the rest of their journey on public transport.” In addition to parking bicycles, luggage can also be safely deposited.
