NEW YORK – Members of a Queens mosque sprang into action after a teenager struck a taxi driver, stole his car and crashed into several others nearby, police say.
It all started after the teenager ran over a taxi driver, stole his car and ran over several people nearby. Police say the incident occurred on Glenmore Avenue in Queens, near the Al-Furqan Jame Masjid mosque.
According to police, the teenager used pepper spray to assault the taxi driver, before pulling him out of his taxi and fleeing.
Police say members of the mosque pursued the suspect and held him by police. He was taken to the Jamaica Hospital to receive treatment for the injuries he sustained in a fall. The taxi driver who was sprayed with pepper spray was also taken to Jamaica Hospital in stable condition.
The severity of the adolescent’s injuries is unknown.
An investigation is ongoing.
