If yesterday it was confirmed that Saint Petersburg would not host the next Champions League final, today the city has confirmed that it will host it. It will be Paris as decided today by the UEFA executive committee
After the invasion of Ukraine by Russia, the reactions in the sphere of the world of sport have not been long in coming. Yesterday the UEFA executive committee decided to strip St. Petersburg of the organization of the next Champions League final to go one step further today.
That step has been to confirm Paris and more specifically the Stade de France as the venue for the Champions League final that will be played next Saturday, May 28. The cities of Amsterdam and Rome were also considered as possible venues for the final, but finally the executive committee opted for the French capital.
Some information also pointed out that Madrid could have been the city chosen to host the 2022 Champions League final. The RFEF quickly decided to rule out this option because Seville will host the Europa League final and could have tarnished the Sevillian city.
Finally, it should be noted that all the Russian teams present in European competition will play their home games on neutral ground. In addition, the Russian team, local in their playoff matches for the 2022 World Cup, must play these matches on neutral ground yet to be decided.
