Paris today: road cycling begins, will Hassan be crowned champion again?

When you see the name Sifan Hassan on the start list of an Olympic event final, you better check the medal table. Tonight at 9pm the two-time Olympic champion will run her first final in Paris and she will do so in the 5,000 metres.

Hassan also ran the 5,000 meters in Tokyo. She then won with flying colors.

It will be a busy day on and around the athletics track. Nick Smidt will run the men’s 400 meter hurdles in the morning and Lieke Klaver will run her first round of the 400 meters just after 12 noon.

From 7pm Menno Vloon will take part in the pole vault final. Additionally, Tasa Jiya will run her semi-final in the 200 meters at 8:45 p.m.

And finally, Jorinde van Klinken is also acting. After her silver medal at the European Championships, she hopes to compete again in the discus. The discus throw final begins at 8:30 p.m.

With Marianne Vos, the Dutch cycling team won a silver medal on the road on Sunday. Today we go in and the Games for the track cyclists begin. Holland has come to Paris with a team of heavyweights.

Harry Lavreysen is especially on a mission. He wants gold, gold and more gold. The first step towards his trilogy can be taken today from 5 pm. Then the qualification for team sprinters will begin. Lavreysen, Jeffrey Hoogland and Roy van den Berg are likely to get through this one unscathed.

The women with Kyra Lamberink, Hetty van de Wouw and Steffie van der Peet will also put their leg muscles to work.

Not only does track cycling start today, the same applies to diving. Else Praasterink tries to qualify on the 10-meter board after 10am in the morning for the semi-finals later in the day.

After months of speculation about hygiene, the water in the Seine was found to be clean enough last week, so the triathletes swam in the famous river during the individual competitions.

The question is whether the water was clean enough. Triathletes have become ill after these competitions. But today we swim again in the Seine. And so Rachel Klamer, Maya Kingma, Richard Murray and Mitch Kolkman can splash into the infamous rain for the mixed race in the triathlon at 8am.

In addition, some sports are going to the most important level today. The rate at which prices converge. For example, Katja Stam and Raïsa Schoon want to go to the semi-finals of the beach volleyball tournament and women’s hockey can qualify for the semi-finals if they manage to win on Britain.

Marit Bouwmeester sails her ninth and tenth races. With her huge lead, there is a good chance she will win her gold medal today. Otherwise there will be a second chance in the medal race tomorrow.

And finally, the Dutch show jumping riders go into action. Harrie Smolders, Kim Emmen, Willem Greve and Maikel van der Vleuten will try to qualify for the final on Tuesday.
