According to the newspaper, he should have such a tariff Le Figaro pay in the central parts of the metropolis, while in the peripheral districts it will be 12 euros (293 CZK) per hour. The upcoming price increase is aimed at SUVs because they are large vehicles with powerful engines, which not only contribute to air pollution to a greater extent, but also cause problems in terms of “fair use of public space”.
The city hall’s intention must still be approved by the residents of Paris in a referendum that will take place on February 4. “This vote will be a signal for car manufacturers. Their pursuit of profits, manifested in the production of ever larger, more expensive and more demanding cars, threatens our ecological transformation,” said the statement of the town hall, which is headed by socialist Anne Hidalgo.
According to the media, it can be expected that the plebiscite will sanctify the town hall’s plans. The measure should not concern Parisians, but only visitors to the metropolis. The increased tariff should not also apply to drivers with disabilities, self-employed people and care workers. Free parking for all vehicles is to be maintained at night and on Sundays.
The scooters have already disappeared
Voting in the announced referendum will only be possible in person. The town hall does not count on the possibility to express an opinion online or by letter.
Under the same conditions, the residents of Paris decided in an April referendum to ban electric scooters. Participation in the plebiscite was very low, but the vote was still valid, and since September scooters have completely disappeared from the streets of Paris.
