Lionel Messi has still not renewed his contract with FC Barcelona. Nevertheless, Paris St.-Germain no longer wants to sign him.
The French Sheikh Club had been particularly offensive to the 34-year-old in recent months. Coach Mauricio Pochettino, but also the superstars Neymar and Angel di Maria, spoke publicly about a Messi engagement in the winter.
But the train has now apparently left, at least reports the otherwise always well-informed “Le Parisien”. “PSG have given up the dream of seeing Neymar and Messi play together at the Prinzenparkstadion,” the report said. The Argentine is said to have simply not returned the efforts of the French sheikh club. This means that Neymar’s wish to play at the 34-year-old’s side again will not come true.
When will Barca deal be official?
Messi has one less option. The Argentine has been without a club for two weeks and can sign with any other club. But hardly any club can afford the salary of six times the world footballer. Manchester City had not shown the greatest interest in the Argentine recently. It is still too early to switch to Beckham club Inter Miami in the MLS.
Thus, only the extension remains at Barca anyway. However, there is still a problem with the upper salary limit, which is valid in the Spanish league. The Catalans have yet to get rid of players to clear millions for Messi.
