Paris St. Germain’s Disappointing Start Without Mbappé and Neymar: Latest Updates

Status: 08/12/2023 11:20 p.m

France’s soccer champions Paris St. Germain made a disappointing start to the new Ligue 1 season without their superstars Kylian Mbappé and Neymar.

The team of the new coach Luis Enrique had to settle for a 0-0 draw against FC Lorient on Saturday (12.08.2023) at home in the Prinzenpark. PSG had already suffered a sensitive bankruptcy against the Bretons in the second half of the previous season.

In the dispute over Mbappé’s future, Paris had ignited the next level of escalation on Saturday afternoon. The defending champions didn’t nominate the star striker for the first game of the season. Neymar was also not in the PSG squad due to illness.

Tormenting poker with the superstars

The future of striker Mbappé is the overarching topic at the capital club. The 24-year-old still has a contract until 2024, but would like to fulfill it but not extend it. In this scenario, Paris threatens to have to let the exceptional player worth millions go free of charge in the coming year. Real Madrid is the favorite in the fight for the vice world champion.

Neymar’s future is also uncertain. The Brazilian, who suffers from a ‘viral syndrome’ and is therefore out according to PSG, is being urged to leave. The club are ready to consider “any satisfactory offer”, a source close to the negotiations told French news agency AFP.
