Messi was outspoken about PSG, after winning the 2022 World Cup. The owner of 7 Ballon d’Ors felt that his club was not treated special.
Messi’s attitude was then commented on by his former teammates in Argentina. Pastore, Messi’s compatriot in Team Tango, defended PSG’s stance.
Speaking to RMC Sport, Pastore said: “I didn’t talk to him about it, but it’s normal; celebrating world champions in a country that lost the final is something difficult. It means a lot for the club not to do something important so as not to highlight a bad moment for France and for the Parisian players who play for France.”
“After that, every player can think about what he wants. To be honest, I don’t know everything that happened at PSG in the last two years because I wasn’t there. I’m not a teammate Lionel Messi. I do not know. It’s something between the club and the player.”
PSG has responded to Messi’s statement. President Nasser Al Khelaifi emphasized that the club had given Messi a small celebration, not a big one in honor of France who lost in the final.
Lionel Messi become champion 2022 World Cup late last year. Argentina beat France in the final on penalties, after a 3-3 draw for 120 minutes. Messi also emerged as the best player of the tournament in Qatar.
