Paris Saint-Germain Struggles to Reach Champions League Next Round with 1-1 Draw at Borussia Dortmund – Goldcrest Warren Zaire-Emery Makes History as Youngest French Goalscorer

Paris Saint-Germain struggled to reach the next round of the Champions League on Wednesday. The French superpower had just enough with a 1-1 draw at Borussia Dortmund. Goldcrest Warren Zaire-Emery became the youngest French goalscorer ever in the million-dollar ball.

In a spectacular first half at Signal Iduna Park, both Dortmund and PSG failed to score. The home team had great chances through Karim Adeyemi, Marco Reus and Mats Hummels, while Randal Kolo Muani, Kylian Mbappé and Lee Kang-in failed to open the scoring on behalf of PSG.

After the break, Adeyemi still broke the ban. PSG suffered a clumsy loss of ball, after which the winger was able to shoot home. Dortmund could not enjoy the 1-0 for long, as Zaire-Emery equalized a few minutes later. He thus became the youngest French player to score in the Champions League (17 years and 280 days).

Both teams then had chances to win, but goals were not achieved. Donyell Malen was allowed to come on after an hour of play for Dortmund, which accompanies PSG to the next round. Tijjani Reijnders’ AC Milan advances to the Europa League with a nice win over Newcastle.

The English team started strongly and, thanks to a goal from Joelinton, was even on course to hibernate in the Champions League. But the dream of ‘The Magpies’ was shattered by goals from Christian Pulisic and Samuel Chukwueze. Milan, like PSG, finished on eight points, but the French were stronger than Milan in the mutual matches.

Manchester City extends winning streak

Manchester City also won the sixth group match in the Champions League. Substitute Nathan Aké’s team defeated Red Star 2-3. At RB Leipzig-Young Boys the goals came within a few minutes.

Before the start of the final group match in Belgrade, City had long been qualified for the knockout phase of the Champions League. Trainer Josep Guardiola could therefore afford to give a lot of permanent staff a rest and see some talents at work.

The B-team of ‘The Citizens’ turned out to be a size too big for Red Star. Micah Hamilton and Oscar Bobb – both twenty years old – put the English at 0-2. Hwang In-beom brought back the tension, but Kalvin Phillips scored the winner from the penalty spot. Aleksandar Katai’s 2-3 turned out to be just for statistics.

Red Star had already been eliminated from Europe beforehand and finished one point at the bottom of group G. Manchester City and Aké, who came into the team in the final phase, will be in the draw on Monday for the draw for the eighth finals of the Champions League.

Nothing was at stake at RB Leipzig-Young Boys (2-1). The goals came between the 51st and 56th minute. Benjamin Sesko and Emil Forsberg scored on behalf of Leipzig. Ebrima Colley did something in return. The Germans, where Xavi Simons came on after the break, had already qualified for the knockout phase, just like City. Young Boys enters the Europa League.
