This Sunday Paris Saint-Germain won its third consecutive Ligue 1 title after AS Monaco lost points against Olympique Lyonnais.
PSG had squandered the chance to secure the title on Saturday night against relegation-threatened Le Havre at the Parc des Princes, relying on Gonçalo Ramos’ 95th-minute equalizer to secure a dramatic 3-3 draw. .
The draw with Le Havre meant PSG had a 12-point lead over Monaco at the top of the Ligue 1 table, with Adi Hutter’s side having four games left to play.
One of those four matches took place on Sunday night, when Monaco traveled to in-form Olympique Lyonnais knowing that anything but a win would give PSG a record 12th Ligue 1 title.
Monaco managed to take the lead in the first minute of the match at the Groupama Stadium when star Wissam Ben Yedder pushed the ball in at the far post.
However, two quick goals would change the game shortly after. The first came from Alexandre Lacazette in the 23rd minute, and the next was scored by his former Premier League teammate Said Benrahma in the 26th minute.
The visitors managed to equalize on the hour mark thanks to Ben Yedder after prolonged pressure, but conceded once again in the 84th minute (youngster Malick Fofana scored the goal) handing the title to PSG.
While it was not an exceptional year for PSG domestically, Luis Enrique’s team managed to prove almost unbeatable during the 2023/24 Ligue 1 season – losing just one game to OGC Nice in mid-September.
