Paris Saint-Germain agreed to the offer of the Saudi club Al-Hilal, to buy the Brazilian striker Neymar, for 90 million euros, in addition to some other privileges.
It remains for the 31-year-old to pass medical tests and sign contracts.
Neymar joined Paris Saint-Germain in 2017, for a then-record amount of 222 million euros, but he did not join the team’s list in his first match in the French Premier League this season, in which he tied with a goal for the same against Lorient.
It seems that the deal suits the Parisian team, which has recently been trying to move away from huge deals and high-paid stars, such as Lionel Messi, who also left the team this summer.
Neymar was earning about 25 million euros annually in Paris Saint-Germain, and he played for the team 173 matches, and participated in the team winning about 13 titles, including 5 French Premier League titles, and he also reached with the team the final match of the Champions League in 2020.
But Neymar suffered several injuries during his playing in Paris, including ankle injuries, and he underwent surgery 5 months ago, which caused him to be out of action until last month.
Neymar missed two matches for his country in the 2022 World Cup, after being injured in Brazil’s first match in the group stage.
Neymar also missed the 2019 Copa America, due to a torn ligament in his right ankle.
This comes hours after Kylian Mbappe returned to the team after the differences between him and the team management ended.
Mbappe, 24, had entered into a dispute with the club’s management regarding the details of his contract and the possibility of his transfer to Real Madrid.
Last week, Paris Saint-Germain granted Al-Hilal permission to negotiate with Mbappe, after he made a record offer, amounting to 300 million euros.
The transfer of Neymar is the latest episode in which the most prominent stars of European clubs joined Saudi teams for fabulous sums, which reflects the desire of officials to compete with the most prominent international leagues.
Stars such as Karim Benzema, Ngolo Kante, Cristiano Ronaldo, Sadio Mane, Jordan Henderson and Ruben Neves have recently joined Saudi clubs.
The transfer of Neymar himself to Paris Saint-Germain in 2017 was the reason for the high prices of player deals, but he was unable to contribute to the team winning the Champions League title.
And the Paris Saint-Germain administration realized, albeit late, that contracting with prominent stars was not the guaranteed way to achieve titles and championships.
The disposal of Neymar’s salary, after the disposal of Messi’s salary, will be a major impetus for the team’s management in its efforts to reconcile its conditions with regard to the laws of fair financial play.
It seems that Neymar’s salary will far exceed his salary in Paris, which amounted to 25 million euros annually, so that the transfer would be tempting for him, while the deal remains the spotlight on the Saudi League, which seeks to attract stars, although the best days of Neymar as a player are mostly gone because of injuries.
