Paris Saint-Germain 8-0 Dijon – To World

Paris St-Germain is chasing the fifth French title in six seasons

Neymar was mocked by Paris St-Germain fans after denying Edinson Cavani a chance to become the club’s all-time scorer while the Ligue 1 side were eliminated by midfielder Dijon.

Cavani’s goal in the first half meant he was tied with Zlatan Ibrahimovic with 156 goals in all competitions for PSG.

The hosts led 4-0 at halftime and Neymar had already completed a hat trick before PSG were awarded a penalty.

The Brazilian’s decision to take the penalty instead of allowing Cavani resulted in whistles from the home crowd, but coach Unai Emery defended him after the game.

“I think Neymar took the penalty because it was a good day for him too,” said Emery.

“We are happy with it. But Cavani will have a lot more chances of scoring more goals. “

PSG defender Thomas Meunier described it as “a bit of a shame and a little ungrateful” but admitted that Neymar was his team’s penalty taker.

“He could have given him the ball, that would have been a nice gesture of fair play,” he said.

“He did so much for the team today and the fact that the fans whistled him didn’t take it very well. I think most of the players would have had the same reaction. “

PSG lead the table after 21 games by 11 points over closest rivals Lyon, whom they play against on Sunday.

The league leaders have won their last eight league and cup games, scored 31 goals and conceded six goals.

Dijon, who is 11th in the table, has been without a win for four games.
