PARIS: One day in New York around Time Square

After visiting the FingerLakes, we will continue our road trip with a whirlwind tour of New York in one day around Time Square. a great view from one of the most interesting cities in the world!

I have come to the United States many times and there is no doubt that I am one of the rare French people who have traveled more than 20 times to this country with several stops in New York.

However, this is my first time staying in Time Square. We will take the route and then connect on the R line to Time Square 42nd.

The metro exit opens just a stone’s throw from the entrance to our hotel, the Hilton Tempo. I have come to New York several times and I have seen the amazing changes since the 1980s. There are now bike lanes and popular and expensive organic stores like Whole Foods across the street from Bryan Park.

Time Square is still busy.

After a short check in at the hotel, we walk around the square, which is always crowded during the summer holidays. Many artists walk around in Marvel costumes, the fashionable clothes have cracked teenagers for these films, and the last part of them, Deadpool and Wolverine, is far from perfect – intellectual work.

Rockefeller Center: a city within a city

We are going for a walk at the end of the day towards the Rockefeller Center which was built during the Great Depression in the 1930’s by the richest man in the world at the time, John D. Rockefeller. This city within the city aimed to integrate shops, offices and housing, making it one of the first mixed real estate programs of development.

Passing by we take a look at Radio City Hall, the art deco concert hall and at NBC Studios with its “goodie” shop in the glory of its shows and star presenters like Late Night with David Letterman, Saturday Night Live, Late night with Jimmy Fallon or the Tonight Show.

It is also possible to participate in draws to participate in shows: the draws were held in the summer for shows throughout the year. During the winter, Rockefeller Center is decorated with beautiful Christmas decorations such as its famous tree and many New Yorkers come to relax at the popular ice rink.

In the center there are interesting works such as the statue of Prometheus overlooking the ice field, the Atlas carrying the earth in front of the International Building or an open work by José Maria Sert that replaced the controversial one by Mexican artist Diego Rivera.

After this visit we walk near Time Square before having dinner at the Shake Shack in the “Theater District”. There we meet a French woman and her niece who came to visit the United States. This woman lives in Texas and explains to us that she came to the United States to earn a better living in the field of medical care. She is very happy to live there but she still prefers Tennessee to Texs. “The people there were more welcoming, we made a lot of friends there, but in Texas people are cooler.” Unlike the climate you might say. She tells us how small American life is like the fact that cars often drive faster than the posted speed limit unlike in France: “you have to drive at the same speed as other cars even if it is faster, but we need a bit like the carts drawn by horses during the conquest of the west. She tells us that life here is easier than in France because of higher wages. , otherwise it will be difficult.” We go back to the hotel to prepare for our long day tomorrow.

As soon as we got up we went to Frisson Espresso Time Square, a great little bar where the espresso is excellent. This is the typical coffee bar that we like with its small window, its regulars and its time-worn parquet floor.
