Since 2017, Alexis Hanquinquant collect titles from champion of France, Europe and the world in paratriathlon. In 2021, he made the perfect season, repeating this triple and ending first of the olympic games in tokyo, becoming the first French gold medalist in his sport. “I aspired to it, I dreamed it and I did it!, says the athlete. I am certainly at the highest level of my career. And my goal is to stay there! “Returned from three weeks of vacation after this crazy year, he is therefore preparing to resume training.
Before that, he renewed a high-level sports professional integration agreement, Thursday January 13, 2022 at Rouen (Seine-Maritime), with his employer Bouygues Bâtiment Grand Ouest and the French Triathlon Federation. The opportunity to recall that in addition to his work, his will, his pugnacity and the support of his relatives, it is an entire organization that allows him to perform at the highest level while maintaining the “security” of a job.
Make society more inclusive
Alexis Hanquinquant joined Bouygues on a permanent contract as a prevention officer in 2018, a year after starting to perform at the highest level in his discipline, which combines swimming, cycling and running. The company allows him to adapt his schedule to his various sporting deadlines. “It’s Alexis who sets the pace,” sums up the president of Bouygues Bâtiment Grand Ouest Philippe Robineau. I think it’s the best way to do it given the level of commitment that his training requires. »
Throughout the first part of last year, Alexis Hanquinquant was able to focus entirely on his goal of the Olympics. “It’s certainly what allowed me to be so strong in Tokyo,” he says. The company supports high-level sport through this partnership and tries to change the way people look at disability. What the triathlete contributes to by excelling during competitions, but also by his presence on construction sites. He prefers to talk about “difference” more than disability, encouraging everyone to seek wealth in the other, without stopping at physical appearance. “My own project is to make this society more inclusive. »
Forever in the history of his sport
More than ever the man to beat for his competitors in the next competitions, Alexis Hanquinquant will have all the room for maneuver necessary to perfect his preparation, with his coaches Nicolas Becker and Nicolas Poulot, for the European Championships in Poland at the end of May, then the world championships in Abu Dhabi in November. The major objective in sight being of course to win a second gold medal at the Paris Olympics. “I will work to be really competitive, promises Alexis Hanquinquant. I still have things to show. »
Whatever future exploits he could still achieve, the triathlete has already “marked the history of his sport” by becoming the first Olympic gold medalist in paratriathlon in France, recalls the president of the federation Cédric Gosse, who would see this “flagship” of the discipline wearing the flag of France in 2024.
