The line, which will connect Orly airport to Saint-Denis-Pleyel station, near the Stade de France, is due to open just under two months before the 2024 Olympics.
The schedule is tight but “we will be ready”: the extension of line 14, the backbone of the transport network for the Paris Olympic Games, will be completed in June 2024. This was said on Monday by the regional president, Valérie Pécresse, and the boss of the RATP, Jean Castex.
“We have passed a number of major milestones since the start of the year,” said the director of operations for the extension of metro line 14, Stéphane Garreau, during a visit to the Chevilly station site. -Larue, on the edge of the Rungis market.
The line that will connect Orly airport to Saint-Denis-Pleyel station, near the Stade de France, is on time to open a little less than two months before the Olympics, he said at the microphone of BFM Paris Ile-de-France.
“A Busy Line”
This extension will make the 14 “a busy line”, said Jean Castex, since one million passengers are expected per day, the equivalent of the influx of the RER B.
As a result, 37 new metro trains have been ordered, which will double the number of trains in circulation.
Valérie Pécresse again threatened not to run the metros on this new equipment if she did not obtain new resources.
“For the moment, we don’t have the money to run – the metros – but I don’t despair, we have an appointment with the Prime Minister in July,” she said.
The price of the ticket towards an increase
Also asked about the rate charged on the 14 to Orly, she indicated that there would be “a small additional cost for the single ticket, the airport package”, without specifying the amount.
Finally, concerning the transport plan during the Olympic Games, the president wanted to be reassuring: “The only small concern that we have (…) is whether we will be able to transport all those who will go to the flank west of Paris – Rolland-Garros, Parc des Princes and Jean Bouin? We will undoubtedly need reinforcements in this area or to postpone certain events in the morning. We are working on it”.
The construction site for the extension of line 14 will have cost three billion euros in terms of infrastructure and one billion euros for the renewal of rolling stock, according to Stéphane Garreau.
