Paris Mayor and PSG Club Clash Over Sale of Parc des Princes: Arnaud Péricard Speaks Out

Arnaud Péricard, mayor of Saint-Germain en Laye, spoke on the airwaves of France Blue Paris, on the difficulties of the relationship between QSI and the Paris City Hall in the matter of the sale of the Parc des Princes. He did not appreciate the declarations of each other, but hopes that an agreement will be found. He also recalled that the club has done a lot for Parisian football.

Pericard “When you deal with a public actor, it is necessarily different than with a private actor”

“I don’t think that’s right. I understand that at some point we may have certain difficulties. We too had these difficulties, all things considered, with the club. It’s part of the game. We’re all professional actors. But when you deal with a public actor, it is necessarily different than with a private actor. There are domain estimates, constraints that must be understood. I think that this relationship, which has been peaceful for ten years, cannot explode overnight.

Pericard ” I think Paris Saint-Germain must seize this opportunity.”

It is not possible. And I, I called everyone to responsibility. I tried to reconnect a little the wires of the contact. I enjoyed Pierre Rabadan’s speech. It was a kind of invitation to re-discuss and get back around the table. I think Paris Saint-Germain must seize this opportunity. We cannot possibly conceive of the biggest European club without this backing in Paris, and then in Saint-Germain. We have no difficulty with the club.

Pericard ” Qatar has been here for ten years. Thanks to him, we have the club we have today. Maybe we shouldn’t forget that too.”

I did not appreciate the statements against the city of Paris. We don’t treat the capital of France like that. As I did not appreciate the statements against Qatar. Qatar has been here for ten years. Thanks to him, we have the club we have today. Maybe we shouldn’t forget that either. It may be necessary to temporize, to calm down and to think above all of the interests of the club. (…) I am quite optimistic and I hope that an agreement will be found”

This story takes up all the space, everyone gets involved and everyone needs each other. But often, in political discussions, there is no clarity, the stakes are too high and the conflict is now open despite attempts at appeasement between two important parties. Péricard is rather right to try to calm things down, but the affair seems complex and the resentments quite great. Will the dialogue resume? Nothing is less sure.

The club clearly seems to be closing the door to a return to the discussion requested by the town hall of Paris. The stakes of the Parc des Princes are great. We will wait to see the situation evolve favorably in this direction, but with pressure from each other, things could quickly become irreversible. From now on, we must find calm, which is not the specialty of PSG.
