Paris Implements New Parking Pricing Adapted to Vehicle Size and Motorization to Combat Autoobesity

On June 8, the elected representatives of the Council of Paris voted in favor of parking pricing adapted to the size and motorization of vehicles. During the session, the Parisian ecological adviser Frédéric Badina Serpette mentioned a phenomenon “autoobesity”. “The public space is not expandable, the parking spaces do not expand, nor do the underground car parks”, he judged. According to the French Environment and Energy Management Agency (Ademe), the weight of new vehicles sold in France has fallen from 953 kg in 1990 to 1,233 kg in 2020.
