Paris firefighters, we love you!

“Paris firefighters – our mission: to save”. For its fiftieth anniversary, the prestigious BSPP (Paris Fire Brigade) has thought big, and this Saturday invited Parisians to come and meet the firefighters on the forecourt of the Town Hall. Kick-off to the great exhibition which is held until April 29 under the gold of the town hall of Paris.

And, once is not custom, we could even take place in the emergency vehicles, old and modern, exposed on the forecourt … And even put on a firefighter’s helmet for the photo: “He dreamed of it!” Smiles Anne, who has just hoisted Theo, her five-year-old boy, into a red truck. He is passionate, like all children his age, I think. But the big guys are too. Philippe, who is “the age of the brigade”, launched into a heated conversation with firefighters: “I really admire them. They carry out a high-risk mission to protect us, to save us. We can never give them enough homage. “A few meters away, in the exhibition rooms which have just opened to the public, Mathis, 11, is captivated by the reconstruction of a firefighter’s room:” They are resting there, but they are not sleeping that of an eye! We can call them at any time, he blurted in admiration. It’s a great job, because you never know what’s going to happen. It’s adventure every day ”.

Elisabeth, 20 years old: “What they do is exceptional”

After the pouring rain that accompanied all the demonstrations of the Paris fire brigade (BSPP), this Saturday afternoon, on the forecourt of the Hôtel-de-Ville (4th arrondissement), Elisabeth, a 20-year-old student , took advantage of a lull to take out his camera, and strafe the soldiers of the fire. A great admirer of the firefighters, she did not want to miss this meeting in the form of a tribute, organized for the fifty years of the brigade: “Everyone loves them but few people talk about them and that’s good. too bad, she blurted out. They live day and night in the service of others, to help them, to save their lives sometimes at the risk of theirs, but that ends up seeming normal. You get used to their presence, when what they do is exceptional. Me, I am very admiring and I absolutely wanted to come to this anniversary to meet them and to pay homage to them ”.

To pay tribute to this unique military body, the City of Paris opened to the BSPP, the third largest firefighting unit in the world, which operates in the capital and the three inner-city departments (92, 93 and 94), the room Prevots-Tapestries where visitors can travel free of charge to the heart of the history of this mythical profession. Photos, archives, old and new generation intervention material, objects, reconstructions and audiovisual documents to be discovered every day for nearly two months.

“Paris firefighters – our mission: to save”, Monday to Saturday from 10 am to 6.30 pm, Salle des Prévôts-Tapisseries, Hôtel-de-Ville de Paris (4th arrondissement). Free entrance. Information on “http: //www.pompiersparis.fr”
