Paris-Camembert does not feel threatened for the moment

The Prime Minister Jean Castex announced Thursday a new series of measures to stop the spread of the Covid-19 epidemic. A localized containment in several areas of France has been decreed in particular. Among these, we find the department of Eure. However, it is from Pont-Audemer that the Classic Paris – Camembert is due to start on April 13th.

Guy Brien, are you worried about the holding of the 82nd edition of Paris – Camembert on April 13?

No not right now. Given the fact that we are organizing a professional event, we should be able to maintain the race, as was done for Paris-Nice last week (The Alpes Maritimes were in the red zone, with confinement on weekends, Editor’s note). For the moment, we are serene. In our opinion, Paris – Camembert is not threatened.

A close eye on Paris – Roubaix

If the health situation were to deteriorate, would there be a risk of seeing the event postponed again, like last year?

There is still a risk in the current period, but so far there is no indication that we should postpone the race. We will still watch carefully what happens to Paris – Roubaix, which takes place two days earlier. This could be a good indication. However, this race takes place entirely in a red zone, which has already been under surveillance for several weeks. On our side, the incidence rate is not as high.

Especially since the race takes place mainly in Orne and Calvados, two departments for the moment outside of confinement.

Yes, of course we have the departure from Pont-Audemer, but then we only cover around 40 kilometers in the Eure, out of a total of 210 km. In any case, we are already in a closed-door configuration at the start and at the finish. All health precautions are in place to avoid public gatherings, as well as to guarantee the protection of runners.

Appointment. Paris – Camembert, April 13, 2021, departure and arrival to be followed live on France Bleu Normandie (Calvados-Orne).
