“Paris Bourse Expected to Rise as Societe Generale Reports Strong Q1 Results and JCDecaux Forecasts Growth”

The Paris Bourse is expected to rise slightly this Friday, despite a hesitant session in the United States, where the major indices ended up in disarray. If the Dow Jones fell 0.66%, the Nasdaq Composite nibbled 0.18%. Half an hour before the first exchanges, the Cac 40 futures contracts suggest a slight gain of around 0.3%.

A session during which the uncertainties around the ceiling of the American debt should continue to hover, the new meeting between Joe Biden and the leaders Democrats and Republicans in order to try to find an agreement to avoid that the government finds itself in the inability to honor his bills having been postponed to next week.

A component of inflation to watch closely in the United States

Operators will therefore rely on the few statistics of the day, which will focus on the publication, in the afternoon, of the American consumer confidence index according to the University of Michigan. The numbers will be important as these are the first (preliminary data) of May. Pay particular attention to the one-year inflation component, expected to decelerate to 4.4% over one year, against 4.6% for April.

In the meantime, focus on companies and on the latest publications of the week. Only member of the Cac 40 on the bridge, Societe Generale published better-than-expected results in the first quarter thanks to a more pronounced drop than expected in its cost of risk and in its interest rate, credit and foreign exchange activities.

JCDecaux for its part, expects an acceleration of its organic growth in the second quarter, after a stronger than expected rebound in its activity in the first three months of 2023.
