PARIS: Paris 2024 Olympics medalists return with piece of Eiffel Tower. The medals awarded to the gold, silver and bronze medalists at the World Sports Center are made of iron removed during previous renovations of the tower. The iron shards were kept secret for years.
In the center of each medal is an 18 gram iron hexagonal token representing the shape of France. The reverse of the medal depicts Nike, the goddess of victory, standing between the Eiffel Tower and the ancient Greek city of Acropolis. Thierry Reboul, creative director of Paris 2024, said it was an opportunity for Latvians to return with a piece of Paris.
The medal was presented to the media yesterday. 5,084 medals are produced by the Monet de Paris company. The Paris Olympics will begin on July 26.
