Paris 2024, Jordan Chiles could regain the bronze on floor exercise thanks to Netflix

The American gymnast’s lawyers Jordan Chiles have filed an appeal before the Swiss Federal Court to contest the revocation of the bronze medal won in the floor exercise. Chiles had finished third thanks to a revision of her mark which allowed her to overtake the Romanian Ana Barbosu. The Romanian team appealed the decision to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) and won, arguing that Chiles had exceeded the time limit for re-evaluation of his score by four seconds. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) then returned the bronze to Barbosu. Now sensational news is emerging, which could give the American back her third Olympic place behind the Brazilian Rebecca Andrade and her teammate Simone Biles.

The appeal thanks to Netflix

The latest appeal by USA Gymastics came thanks to a Netflix documentary on Simone Biles. Filmmaker Katie Walsh provided footage of that competition, which would help disprove a crucial aspect of the Court of Arbitration for Sport’s ruling: showing that the U.S. gymnast’s appeal against her score was lodged well before the 60-second deadline. In the documentary you would hear the coach Cecile Landi make a complaint after 49 seconds and not after 64 seconds, as reported in the first sentence.
