Paris 2024 Games, breakdancing and skateboarding are playing their last cards

There are 212 Italians who have qualified so far for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games: 52 individual passes and 160 national places (106 men and 106 women) in 24 disciplines. In France the IOC confirmed the emerging sports, the “hurban sports”, which debuted in Tokyo 2020 (actually, 2021) and to these it added dance, specifically breakdancing. Sports that young people like and which also have a strong following on TV.

Among urban sports, Italy has so far found a place at the French Games only with sport climbing (1 individual pass for Matteo Zurloni in speed) and with surfing (1 individual pass for Leo Fioravanti). Now the other disciplines are waiting. In skateboarding, four Italians are still in the running (two stages to qualify): Agustin Aquila for street, Alessandro Mazzara, Alex Sorgente and Lucrezia Zarattini for park. “I hope to bring all four of them to France” explains Sabatino Aracu, n.1 of the Italian and international Federations.

Breakdancing, as mentioned, will make its debut in Paris: Laura Lunetta is the n.1 of the Italian Federation, the only woman together with Antonella Granata (squash) at the top of a sports Federation. Even Lunetta, like Aracu, is convinced that there will be some Italians competing in Paris. For breakdancing, the final cards will be awarded through the Olympic Qualifier Series. There will be 40 B-Boys and as many B-Girls competing for them: the final ranking will be defined by the last two scheduled stages, scheduled for 16 to 19 May in Shanghai, China, and from 20 to 23 June in Budapest, Hungary. Unfortunately there will be no Italians in Paris while in the women’s sector, maximum two places per country per gender, there will be three Italians still in the running for the 7 Olympic passes, namely B-Girl Anti (Antilai Sandrini), B-Girl Alessandrina (Alessandra Chillemi ) and B-Girl Spidergirl (Chiara Ceseri). Two of them could make their debut in Paris. The breakdancing (or breaking), skateboarding, 3×3 basketball and BMX freestyle competitions will be held from 27 July to 10 August in the iconic Place de la Concorde, with the Eiffel Tower in the background.

Abodi: “Plant census, a response to citizens”

”This memorandum of understanding gives us the possibility of combining art. 33 of the Constitution with art. 117 and focuses its attention on a fundamental fact with a view to implementing the census which evolves into a database. The update on sports infrastructures will be increasingly in-depth and we will end up with much more significant information that will enter the management model, such as the energy module that will be used to understand the level of efficiency. I am convinced that other collaborations will arise, such as the implementation with the school registry. More than 55% of schools do not have a school gym”: this was said by the Minister for Sport and Youth Andrea Abodi in his speech on the occasion of the signing of the memorandum of understanding between Sport and Health and the Conference of Regions and Autonomous Provinces, for the development of the national system for the census of sports facilities. ”The signature will be a precursor to what will happen in the coming weeks, with coordination between the minister, the department of sport, Sport and Health and the network of councilors who have responsibility for sport in the Regions. I believe it could be a new experience that could produce the effects of an integrated and harmonious system, especially for the citizen. And also harmonize financial resources for the pursuit of common objectives, leaving free interpretation to the Regions”. “An updated map of sports facilities in each region – explains the president of the Conference of Regions, Massimiliano Fedriga – allows for better knowledge of the services offered and open to citizens in the area”.
