Consuming responsibly and respecting your values on a daily basis, that can turn out to be a headache. This is why Diane Scemama and Claire Chouraqui created Dream Act, in Montreuil (Seine-Saint-Denis), in 2015.
This marketplace sources and selects local players in the Social and Solidarity Economy who responsibly produce furniture, cosmetics, clothing and even children’s games. More than 1,000 brands are already listed there. It also offers, via the Dream Act Pro site, products for businesses, particularly in events.
“These are mainly goodies for trade fairs and events, as well as media items,” explains Diane Scemama. Most of the products in this market are filled with plastic, which is where we differentiate ourselves by offering responsible materials. “
Already two contracts for the Olympic Games
An approach that won over the Paris 2024 organizing committee.Already in 2019, Dream Act won a contract of around 15,000 euros for caps and textiles for an event in Senegal. “They needed the products within two weeks. It is a very short deadline, and we were the only ones able to meet it, thanks to an upcycling process carried out by two workshops in the country. The first was already our partner, and we very quickly sourced the second ”remembers the entrepreneur.
She also had a Breton workshop work for the making of the flags, used during the opening ceremony of the Tokyo Olympic Games to create a large fresco on Instagram. A contract at 5,000 euros. Small contracts, compared to Dream Act’s turnover which amounts to 2.3 million euros in 2020.
But Diane Scemama hopes to obtain many other contracts in 2024. “Thanks to the Les Canaux association (which helps SSE companies to respond to calls for projects for the Games, Editor’s note), we have already been able to pitch our model to several big buyers. They seemed interested so we are confident! »Rejoices the one who sees in these Games a real opportunity for the actors of the SSE.
Paris 2024 is not just about the price
“Despite the rhetoric, almost all public and private calls for projects take into account the price much more than the CSR aspect. However, local design is necessarily a little more expensive than subcontracting in China, for example. But with Paris 2024, we see that they leave a real place for this economy, and that they even let us be a force of proposal. “
Founded in Montreuil, the company of 13 employees intends to stay in the department, “where we now have many partners”. In 2022, Dream Act should open a showroom in Seine-Saint-Denis.
