Parents of the 43 trust in Sheinbaum’s commitment to the Ayotzinapa case

Mexico City. In their first meeting with the virtual president-elect, Claudia Sheinbaum, the parents of the 43 missing students obtained the commitment that the Ayotzinapa case will be “central to her government and her policies,” said Vidulfo Rosales, a lawyer for the families.

Outside the Mexico City Museum, where the meeting took place, the litigator added that the families asked the Morena member to follow up on the important issues of the investigation with her transition team.

After an hour-long meeting, which was also attended by Rosa Icela Rodríguez, who will be the next Secretary of the Interior, Rosales indicated that the virtual president-elect informed them that they will have a next meeting until she assumes her mandate in October, while the case continues to be documented.

“We trust in Dr. Claudia’s word. There is an initial commitment from now on and we will move forward from there,” he said.

He added that there was a good mood among the parents at this meeting.

Regarding the previous meeting with President Andrés Manuel López Obrador at the National Palace, Rosales said that the families and their representatives have “very few expectations regarding what can be achieved, it is only a few months and according to the data in the investigation we see no news.”

He reiterated that they will have a next meeting on August 27.
