Parents of Justin Larrebat School Students Oppose Class Closure

Parents of students from Larrebat mobilized. This Thursday afternoon, they were fifty in front of the public establishment of their child in Anglet. They denounce the decision of the academic inspectorate last April to close a class at the start of the next school year, going from nine to eight classes in September.

The academy relies on a declining number of students to justify this decision, minus 22 students in one year. According to their figures, only 202 children were enrolled in school for the next school year. Insufficient to maintain these nine classes. Contested figures the school and the town hall which counted to date 212 children and some registrations in progress. Which, with eight classes, would increase the enrollment to more than 26 children per class.

An unacceptable overload for parents of students who ask that the cancellation of the class be canceled. A request supported by the municipality. Several elected officials (from the majority and from the opposition) including the mayor Claude Olive supported the parents of students. In municipal council, a motion was also voted to this effect.

No re-evaluation for the moment

Parents of students would like to chat with the academic inspector soon. The academy inspectorate which explains for its part that it will not reassess the situation for the moment, in a concern for equity between the schools of the department. A new student count will take place on the day of the start of the school year., and if indeed a sufficient number of pupils were to be enrolled in the school, a reassessment of the situation could take place.
