Parents of Detained Driver Speak Out in Emotional Confession After Severe Accident in Sofia

Second day after the severe accident in Sofia, which killed a young boy and girl, people are lighting candles and laying flowers at the scene of the accident. Meanwhile, the results of the blood test to the boy show that he did not use alcohol or drugs. The parents of the detained 18-year-old driver spoke to bTV. They admitted he was speeding.

In an emotional confession to bTV, the parents of the driver expressed their sincere condolences to the relatives of the deceased.

“If I could, I would give my life to keep them alive,” said Tanya, mother of the 18-year-old boy who caused the crash.

“I want to express my deepest condolences to those who died,” said Mario Antonov, the boy’s father.

The parents of 18-year-old Andrian stand in front of our camera to ask for forgiveness. They admitted he was speeding.

“I can’t explain it, he took courses. I was with him, we even drove for a while. It’s just that he came home that evening a little later and maybe he drove faster than he should have,” said Mario Antonov.

According to them, the investigators did not tell them how much their son was driving. Their son said that the cars on the other side were driving on high beams and blinded him.

Adrian is in custody on a charge of causing death by negligence.

“Now Thursday was supposed to be his send-off, the ball. Three lives just get ruined.
He will not see a ball, he will not have fun,” his parents also said.

For the relatives of 22-year-old Yavor and 24-year-old Ani, the hope remains that the war on the road will stop. The father of the dead boy gave a message to bTV at the very first protest

“I’m the daddy, stop the road killings. Today was my child, tomorrow is yours. Please stop them,” said Pavlin Stoyanov, father of the deceased Yavor.

Seconds before Pavlin lost his son, Blagovest and his girlfriend saw the two young men crossing the footpath.

“I didn’t hear the sound of brakes, nor were there any tire marks,” said Blagovest, who witnessed the crash.

According to the lawyer of the detained driver, he did not see the pedestrians. According to the defense, Adrian has no memory of the blow itself.

Tomorrow the court must decide whether the 18-year-old driver should remain permanently in custody. For the second day, people are gathering at the site of the serious accident, lighting candles and offering flowers in memory of the young girl and boy.
