The educators in the city daycare centers in Mainz are preparing for the planned warning strike next week.

A spokesman for the union ver.di said he assumed that many employees of the Mainz daycare centers would take part in the nationwide warning strike. The current situation in the city daycare centers is problematic, according to the spokesman. There is a great urge among employees to take the situation to the streets.

Last week already had the Mainz City Parents’ Committee asked the city administration to improve the working conditions for educators. This is the only way the city can recruit new staff and finally fill the many vacancies. More than 100 full-time employees were missing in Mainz, according to the city parents’ committee.

Mainz parents complain about intolerable situation

The parents of a daycare center in Mainz Neustadt had also reported an “unacceptable staff situation” in a letter to Mayor Ebling. Ver.di demands for the employees more money and better working conditions in day-care centers, among other things. According to ver.di, the starting salary of educators is 3,006 euros per month, after five years it increases to 3,217 euros.
