jpnn.com, JAKARTA – Detecting or screening early Congenital Heart Disease (CHD) in children is very important.

A heart and blood vessel specialist at Harapan Kita National Heart Center Hospital, dr. Radityo Prakoso, Sp.JP(K) said that early detection increases the hope that the healing process will increase.

“If on physical examination by a doctor there is a suspicion of heart abnormalities, then several additional examinations must be carried out, including echocardiography,” said dr. Radityo, in a press statement, quoted Friday (23/7).

PJB or Congenital Heart Disease (CHD) is a heart disease that has existed since birth due to imperfect heart formation in the early phases of fetal development in the womb.

CHD causes disruption of blood flow in the heart chambers so that the blood pumped is not sufficient for the body’s needs, so that without good pregnancy control, CHD is often not diagnosed before the baby is born.

By the time parents find out that they have a baby, the process of heart development is complete.

Doctor Radityo Prakoso said it was important for parents to conduct premarital screening, consult a cardiologist during pregnancy and screening in newborns.

“Each type of CHD has a different treatment from each other, depending on the classification (cyanotic or non-cyanotic), structural abnormalities, and the severity of the heart defect,” he said.
