Parents have high expectations for vaccination against COVID-19 in children

In mid-October 2021, the anticovid-19 vaccination of children between 6 and 11 years old will begin. They will receive the two formulas from the Chinese supplier Sinovac (with a lapse of 28 days). The placement of the doses will be in educational establishments and health centers closest to their homes.

Francisco Pérez, National Undersecretary of Public Health Surveillance, explained that in the next few days it is expected to publish the guidelines for the immunization of children in this age group.

“It will be the same as what was done with the boys from 12 to 15 years old. It will work with the Ministry of Education so that it is more orderly ”, he commented this Monday, October 11, 2021 to a media outlet.

What about 5-year-olds? Pérez pointed out that they are waiting for the analysis of more scientific evidence to inoculate this population.

“The vaccine for Pfizer, in United States. The pharmaceutical company requested authorization from the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) and we are awaiting further reports on the dosage ”.

This announcement generated a high expectation in parents. EL COMERCIO spoke with three families, who talked about the importance of inoculation to this group of the population.

In the country there are 2.3 million boys in this age range (from 5 to 11 years old). The data appear in the projections of the Institute of Statistics and Censuses (DROWNING).

“For me inoculation is important, because children need to have contact and socialize with their peers. In addition, they must return to face-to-face classes. If we continue to be locked up, we will have sedentary children, who spend many hours in front of the computer ”.

To this is added that in campuses can better learn and understand the knowledge. “In the early years it is important that they teach them to write and read well and teachers are the most suitable for this.”

Erika donoso, 28, is the mother of two children: Gohan and Tomás, 8 and 2 years old, respectively. For her first child -he points out- the pandemic has been complicated, because he is not in contact with his class friends, so he has covered that gap with the use of the computer, television and video games.

We have tried to control the use of devices, so we look for courses so that my son can interact with boys his age and leave safely ”.
