Parents Maarten and Gerdien met each other sixteen years ago. Although love doesn’t immediately splash off, after three dates it hits the mark: they get into a relationship. They now have eight children at home.
With so many children you have to give each other something, the couple thinks. “We are buddies, share the highs and lows. What really connects us is faith,” say Maarten and Gerdien.
The family lives with God at the center of their lives. They desperately need faith when their daughter Miriam dies at the age of 6. “We feel how grateful we are that our daughter Miriam, whom we lost, is with God. God carries us, even through death,” the couple says.
“You can give all your love to someone, but the basis and the foundation for us is God. God is the foundation of our family.” The parents still wear a ring as a reminder of Miriam.
